.. the Atlantis Marina and Nassau in general is a popular destination for Mega Yachts .. and another .. SILVER LINING a 158 footer by Christenson .. just like the new Yacht that Tiger Woods bought made its way into the Marina this morning at High Tide .. after a quick breakfast all of the Gals went shopping .. when they got back we had a short Skippers Meeting and decided that MS DIANNE would lead us thru the ‘Coral Heads’ that are out there between Nassau and Highborne .. after the Gals got back from shopping we pulled out of the Marina at 11:45 am .. the main East West Channel thru Nassau is a little tricky as there is a line of ROCKS right down thru the center of the Channel .. UFDA !! .. but once we were out of the Nassau Harbour area we had very good going .. we had 2 to 3 footers that became 3 to 5 footers as we approached Highborne .. then it flattened right down .. we were all docked at the Marina by 01:00 pm .. when we registered at the marina the Guy there said that they were going to charge us for the two ‘no shows’ that we had made reservations for .. UGH .. after showing them a copy of an E-mail that we sent out clarifying the status of our boats they backed off and said that we had done our homework and that we would not be charged for the two Boats .. after we washed the salt off Dee Light we launched our Dinghy and got it ready for tomorrow .. .. Betty has been in contact with Joel from Highborne to set up dinner for us tonight .. and did we have a dinner .. Joel served dinner at 06:30 pm right at a Hut along the Beach .. B_B_Q Ribs, Grilled Fish, Rice and Beans, Fresh Backed Bread, Macaroni and Cheese ( spiced ), etc and RUM Cake for desert .. what a feast !! .. as we had dinner we watched the sun set .. Crews from anchored yachts can come to the ‘Dinghy Dock’ or to get Fuel and are charged for garbage disposal .. Highborne provides a level of hospitality that alone makes visiting the Exumas a treat .. there is much snorkeling around the Reefs .. | |

KYKNOS Update - as of May 11th .. on Friday May 06th they made decided to head out from Marathon ( up the ICW also ) for Marina Del Mar Resort in Key Largo Florida .. due to weather conditions they wisely decided to spell out a day ( Saturday ) right there .. sooooo on Mothers Day ( Sunday May 08th ) before daybreak they headed out for Cat Cay .. they ended up heading into a rising Tide .. and once they did make it into the Florida Straights they headed into East winds .. this all resulted in traveling five miles in three hours .. as they headed into the East winds they could only maintain a speed of 4 Knots .. when they did make it across the Florida Straights without the use of their Sails it started to get dark and they did not want to go thru the ‘Cut’ into the Cat Cay area in the dark .. thus they dropped their Anchor and spent Mothers Day Night on the Hook …… Monday ( May 09th ) they headed thru the Cut and bypassed Cat Cay .. they headed into the East winds for another long day without the use of their Sails .. when they were about 5 miles from Chub Cay it was getting dark and they ran out of Fuel .. their Fuel Gage showed that it was one quarter full .. UFFDA !! .. sooooo they spent another night on the Hook .. in the morning ( Tuesday May 10th ) they were able to hail down a Trawler that brought them into Chub Cay for Fuel and ended up spending the night there .. they will now be easier to spot with their two new bright RED Fuel Tanks strapped down to the Front Deck of their new Boat .. today ( Wednesday May 11th ) they are going to head out for Nassau for the Laundry Room and Supply Store and the Airport .. their friend Ricky will be heading home from Nassau .. if all goes as planed they will be heading out for Highborne on Thursday the 12th .. |

.. about 10:30 am we headed out for Norman Island where MacDuff’s Bar and Grill is located .. on our way we stopped at the site of an Airplane in the water .. a number of years ago it had been a Drug Airplane and it missed the Runway on Norman Island .. we beached the Dinghys on the ‘back’ side of the Island and walked to MacDuff’s .. MacDuff’s is the Home of the ‘Hurricane Blender’ .. one of the Top 10 Great Places for Waterside drink according to Jimmy Buffet .. Dianne of MS DIANNE had taken an Airplane from Fort Myers to Norman Island sooo she joined the Cruise .. we all had a GREAT lunch at MacDuff’s Bar and Grill .. we had planed to go out fishing with Joel when we returned but Joel said that the waters were too rough for him to take out his 20 foot Fishing Boat .. the Gals spent the afternoon on the Beach near the Marina .. when we walked out to the end of the Fishing Pier to check out the sunset we saw a number of Mega-Yachts anchored off the Shore Line for the night .. The Exuma Cays sweep in an almost unbroken chain from Beacon Cay in the north to the islands of Great and Little Exuma in the south, a distance of over 90 miles. They form the most exquisite cruising grounds, rivaling any in the world. There are approximately 365 cays in the Exumas with some of the most beautiful anchorages and harbors possible to find anywhere. Settlements are few and far between. Most are small picturesque islands, and rather primitive, and the people are friendly and courteous .. .. the Cays themselves vary in size; the smaller islands just a few miles long and wide. Some are low and barren others have rolling hills covered with dense vegetation and small trees. Almost all have beautiful beaches and snug anchorages. The water is crystal-clear and the vivid colors, shades of jade, aqua, and amethyst, on a bright sunny day are brilliant. The water turns to transparent opal near the sandy shores. Most islands have coral reefs that can be investigated on dinghy or by snorkeling .. the exquisite coral formations are alive with darting schools of fish. .. most of the islands are very remote, some uninhabited, some with very few services for boaters. We found all these out islands to have gorgeous crystal clear "see to the bottom" water, nice beaches, and most had protected reefs to snorkel off. ( See photos ) The weather was beautiful for most of our trip, with some high winds ( 20 knots ) experienced as fronts moved through .. |

.. we called KYKNOS on our Cell Phone .. they made it to Atlantis yesterday and will be heading out for Highborne at 08:00 pm today .. if all goes as planned they will be here about 04:00 pm today .. .. after the Gals did some shopping at the Marinas Mega-Mall then they went for a good walk of the Island .. when they got back we took the Dinghys to Allen Cay .. the home of the Iguanas .. and did we see them .. hundreds !! of them .. when we beached our Dinghys at the second Island / Beach we came across a group of students from Indiana that were staying on a Sail Boat and were doing ‘Research on the Allen Cays Rock Iguanas Cyclura cychlura’ .. on the way back Steve and Guy enjoyed using their ‘Water Gun’ on all of us ‘defenseless’ Boaters .. when we got back to the Marina KYKNOS was in their Slip !!! .. it was great to see them again and were they glad to be with the group again !! .. Ricky did not fly back from Nassau as was the original plan but instead defected and will be with us for the duration of the trip .. later we had our ‘Jimmy Buffet / Birthday Party’ that was hosted by FENDER BENDER ( Sue and Bob ) .. Dianne celebrated her Birthday with a special Flamingo Hat that was provided by Betty .. after the Birthday Party our entertainment for the evening was watching two US Coast Guard Helicopters chasing an apparent Drug Boat in the dark .. the apparent Drug Boat ended up being chased into our Marina where the operator beached and abandoned the Boat and ran off into the rocks / brush .. we heard on the Marine Radio that one of the two Guys in the Drug Boat was caught and the other is on the run .. later 10:15 pm we were advised by a member of the DEA that all Boaters were to secure their Tenders and Boats .. they are thinking that the one that is still on the Island will try to escape during the night .. we later found out that the Drug Boat Chase started in Nassau and they followed them all the way to Highborne .. .. from Highborne we are planning to head for the Warderick area .. there is a State Park there called the Exuma Land and Sea Park .. they do not have a Marina there but they have Mooring Balls that are on a ‘first come’ basis .. for the last number of weeks we have been in contact with Judy and Tom who run the State Park in an attempt to secure 5 Mooring Balls for the next two days .. a few days ago Judy indicated that they may have a problem getting us into the Main Mooring Balls area .. as they have a number of Sail Boats that do not want to move on because of the windy weather .. UGH !! .. they have said that they would ‘hold’ the South Mooring Field Balls for us but it is very difficult to get in there and once there you are a long ways from Boo Boo Hill and the other places that we want to take in when we are in this area .. UGH .. about 08:00 am Dan and Margie called .. it looks like they may be able to join up as soon as Staniel Cay .. GREAT NEWS !! .. we called Warderick Wells ( Judy and Tom ) and it looks like we may be able to get a Mooring Ball as planned .. but after a number of phone calls we were able to get Mooring Balls in the Mooring Field right in front of the Park Office .. after a quick update at our Skippers Meeting we all headed out of the Marina at about 10:45 am .. MS DIANNE was in the lead as their Mooring Ball was the furthest into the Mooring field .. the Seas were 3 to 5 footers on our Port Bow .. we made it to the Park and were secured to our assigned Mooring Balls by 12:45 pm .. we got our Dinghys down and explored the Island .. when we checked in at the Rangers Office we met Tom, Judy and Jerry the Park Rangers .. we have heard so much about them thru Jim, Kim and Bill ( Centennial Harbour Marina – Fort Myers FL ) that it was great to meet them in person .. later we had a Progressive Dinghy Dinner with a Settlers Theme that was Hosted by us ( Dee Light ) .. we had one course of the meal at each Boat ending up at Dee Light for the main course .. after we spent a little time on each Boat and had one course of our Progressive Dinner we headed out by Dinghy to the next Boat .. it was a GREAT idea ( Betty ) but the next time we have to remember to bring Flashlights as it really got dark .. "The Exuma Cays Land And Sea Park is, without a doubt, the most pristine and possibly the most beautiful area in the Exumas. The Park, a designated replenishment area for all The Bahamas, is made up of 15 major Cays and numerous smaller ones encompassing 176 square miles. The Park starts at Wax Cay Cut in the north and stretches southward some 22 miles to Conch Cut with an average width of 8 miles. There are no commercial developments within the Park and the only inhabited islands are privately owned." .. at 09:00 am we took our Dinghys to the Beach and climbed to the top of Boo Boo Hill .. apparently the RPYC Sign that Bob Rodde put together in 2003 for Boo Boo Hill was a very well constructed Sign !! .. well we owe a BIG THANKS to Bob again in 2005 as he put together the Sign that we added to his original Sign .. we left some other RPYC Mementos and took many many photos .. we also checked out the ‘Blow Holes’ .. it was an ‘uplifting’ experience .. after lunch we took the Dinghies about six miles South of the Mooring Field to a Coral Reef Sea Aquarium where we went snorkeling .. fish of all types all around us .. Steve had fun feeding the Fish with his spray can of cheese and Betty enjoyed feeding the Fish frozen Peas that she had in a Ziplock Bag .. it was great snorkeling and another ‘photo-opt’ .. but when we were gone a Bird got in our Fly Bridge and left behind its ‘mementos’ .. it has been too windy to have any Bugs but the Birds like to get aboard and have some fresh water .. the last few days Bonnie has been sharing her morning coffee with a couple of Birds .. later all 14 of us made it back to Shore again and had Cocktails and heavey Hors d’oeuvre with the park Wardens Judy and Tom .. they set up a HUGH bonfire, ice for our drinks and the evenings entertainment .. it was neat to meet Judy’s mother Theda ( 92 ) .. she was visiting Judy and Tom from Mississippi .. Larry the Park Fire Marshall snorkeled the entire Mooring Field and checked out every Mooring before he joined us on the Beach .. a number of other Boaters that were also on the Balls joined us and before we knew it we had a party with over 30 people .. it was most entertaining to just talk with the other Boaters .. they were from all over the world and yes there was even another Crew from Fort Myers .. it’s a ‘small world’ !! .. Tom will be heading into Nassau on Monday to get it repaired .. we checked out at the Marina Office and said our goodbyes to Tom and Judy .. once back to Dee Light we loaded our ‘salt encrusted’ Dinghy back onto our ‘salt encrusted’ Dee Light .. Betty and Bob ( KYKNOS ) switched Boats .. Betty became a ‘Sailor’ for the day and Bob became a ‘Stinkpot’ for the day .. with the help of the Crew from MS DIANNE Bob got us untied from the Morning Ball and by 10:30 am we were heading out of the Mooring Field .. Guy and Rick helped each of the other Boats with their Mooring Balls also .. thanks to Marv having one of the Waypoints wrong BENEDICTION ended up with ‘shiny’ Props again .. UFFFDA !! .. Bob and I had an uneventful and beautiful trip to Sampson Cay and we had DEE LIGHT docked by 12:30 pm .. it was good to get the salt off both our Dinghys and our Boats .. Bob was talking to a couple of Guys that had just come in from fishing .. they caught more fish ( Dolphin ) than they could use .. sooooo one 12 Pack of Budweiser and we had dinner for the whole Crew .. Bonnie and Bob ( KYKNOS ) put together a fantastic spontaneous dinner .. Overview - Sampson Cay Club and Marina a place where any stress will quickly wash away, like the tide will wash your footsteps from the beach .. don’t bring your suit and tie .. pack your sandals and shorts and be prepared to kick back and have fun in style .. start your day with a swim on the white sandy Beaches .. daydream .. or watch the plentiful and colorful Marine life ..
