.. just after 07:00 am Marv contacted the Marinas in the Marsh Harbour area again .. the Marinas are still all filled up but we have decided to head out to see what we can find …. NOTE – since we do not know where we will be ( ie on the Hook ) we may not be in an area where we can update the Website timely .. .. yesterday Marv had talked with the Captain of OVERDRAFT about going thru the ‘Cut’ South of the Marina instead of doing the Devils Backbone again .. he highly recommended NOT doing that route .. soo right after we checked out of the Marina our Captain from A-1 showed up and we headed out of the Marina at 08:00 am .. A-1 came up behind us in his ‘Jon Boat’ and once he was aboard he took drove Dee Light thru the Devils Backbone .. NOTE – for a good description of the Devils Backbone see Log D .. as we traveled thru the Backbone area A-1 did add MUCH local ‘color’ .. he took us about two thirds of the way back towards Spanish Wells to an area where we were in open waters .. NOTE – when the five of us RPYC Boats traveled thru the Backbone a few days ago MS DIANNE was the lead Boat and we all paid Guy ( MS DIANNE ) $50.00 each to cover the cost of A-1s service .. ie a total of $250.00 for the trip thru the Backbone .. today we were just one Boat and A-1 charged us $75.00 for the trip .. thus it is very advantages to A-1 to have many Boats at one time as he is able to make much more per trip .. we were ‘at Sea’ in open water and heading North by 09:00 am .. at first the Seas were about 3 to 5 footers plus Rollers of about 4 foot mostly from our Port Aft .. Dan and Margie both had long morning naps .. our excitement of the trip was when we crossed paths with a large Freighter .. AZTPO KAZZIONEIA from NEIPAIAZ .. see photos .. the Freighter was heading East to West and we were heading North and we were on a direct collision course with the Freighter .. we lost at ‘Chicken’ and altered our course .. the Freighter must have been heading to Nassau with a large load of T Shirts and it was really moving .. as we approached the Abacos the Seas laid down a little and we tried to contact the Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour but we were unable to reach them .. since we could not contact any of the Marinas on the East side of the` Island we headed to the un marked Man–O–War Inlet / Cut on the North side on the Island .. Betty was able to contact the Conch Inn Marina on the SAT Phone as our Cell Phones have both now died .. we were told to go to Channels 81 and 82 on the VHF when we were withen five minutes of the Marina .. after making it thru the Man–O–War Inlet we headed South across a very choppy Bay to the Harbour area of Marsh Harbour .. we found a number of well weathered Posts that marked a number of different Channels thru the Harbour area .. we found our way thru the maze and we had Dee Light backed into the Slip and tied off by 01:30 pm .. and Dee Light got a well deserved ‘bath’ .. and then both Betty and Margie enjoyed a Bloody Mary at the Marinas Pool before they checked out a couple of local Shops .. later in the afternoon the thunderstorms moved into the area .. later we took a short walk to Sapodilly for dinner .. we sat outside under ‘Tent’ like Canopies .. a ‘Rice and Raisin Bread’ was served with our meal that we all enjoyed .. just as we made it back to Dee Light the Skies filled with a HUGH Fireworks display that went on and on .. some ‘locals’ told us that ‘they’ have Fireworks for our UA Holiday but ‘they’ do not have anything at all for their own Holidays .. ?? .. anyway we enjoyed the Fireworks from our Back Deck .. that is everyone except Autumn .. with the Thunderstorms and then the Fireworks she had a stressful evening .. just after the local Band at the Marina started up the electrical power in the area failed .. UGH .. soooo we started up our Generator again .. Travel – Today 98 Miles – Cumulative - Dee Light 838 Miles – Tender 88 Miles |

.. the Shoreline around the Marsh Harbour Bay is lined with a number of Marinas, Restaurants, Boat Yards, Water Taxis, etc .. there are many services and activities all around the Bay .. the Conch Inn Marina is in a ‘Hurricane recovery stage’ .. most all of the Docks are new .. but they still do have a lot of work left to be done .. but most all of the Marina and the Resort is now in full operation .. the Marina Office is also the Office for the Resort and it appears to have just reopened and is in a state of disarray .. after Bety rented a Car we all headed to Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour - Boat Harbour Marina for lunch .. the Marinas Restaurant overlooks the very busy Marina Harbour .. this is the first day of their Fishing Tournament .. after checking at the Harbour Masters Office I could see why they did not answer our calls on the VHF .. they were just standing around as many Boaters were calling in and did not respond to anyone at all .. ?? .. I think that they were just overwhelmed with the Tournament and just could not deal with anything else at all .. but lunch was great !! .. we dropped Margie and Dan off at Dee Light so Dan could have a good long afternoon nap .. we headed out with the Rental ( Betty at the Wheel ) and found the Jib Room that is located at the Marsh Harbour Marina .. we set up dinner reservations for ‘Rib Night’ ( Wednesday night ) .. then we did some exploring and shopping .. later Margie and Dan spent the evening aboard Dee Light and we took a walk around the Marsh Harbour area and ended up having dinner at Mangoes .. the Restaurant / Bar overlooks the Harbour .. we ended up sitting next to two couples from Pennsylvania that we had met last night .. they are doing a week charter out of The Moorings that is located in our Marina .. we polished off dinner with Fried Cheese Cake for desert .. HEADLINES Chance of hurricane hit in Fla. doubles this year NEWS PRESS - By JEFF CULL FORT MYERS FL - Hurricane season begins today and, according to forecasts, Floridians should keep a wary eye on the weather maps .. storm guru William Gray and his team at Colorado State University said Tuesday the chances of a major Hurricane ( winds above 110 mph ) hitting the Sunshine State are nearly twice as high as the average over the past century .. UGH!! .. .. today is the first day of ‘Hurricane Season’ .. UGH .. every morning at 08:15 am on Channel 68 ( VHF Marine Radio ) there is a broadcast from the ‘Abacos Cursers Net’ .. they are located in the Marsh Harbour Boat Yard .. one of the Weather Reports came from a Boater that was going thru the Man-O-War Cut and he gave the ‘local conditions’ of the Cut just as he was passing thru it .. talk about being current !! .. after we heard their daily report and the added dialog we all piled into the Rental and Betty ( our designated driver ) drove us to the Ferry Port just Northeast of the Marina and we all took the 09:00 am Albury Ferry to Hope Town .. the Ferry service has 9 runs to Hope Town daily .. by Ferry the Island of Hope Town is located about 20 minutes Northwest of Marsh Harbour .. we saw School Kids get off the Ferry when it arrived at Marsh Harbour and we road over with School Kids that were going to school at Hope Town .. it is much like their ‘local Bus’ .. once there we found that the ‘only’ way to explore the Island was by foot as all of the Golf Carts were rented out .. soooo we walked .. and shopped .. and took many photos .. after we had lunch at the Hope Town Harbour Lodge we took the 01:30 pm Ferry back to Marsh Harbour .. once back we just had to do some more shopping and then Betty and Margie headed to the local Grocery Store for previsions .. they were pleasantly surprised to find a ‘full service’ well stocked local Grocery Store .. much like a mini Wall Mart .. after Dan’s nap and much needed showers we took the Rental to the Jib Room at the March Harbour Marina for dinner .. |
|
|
.. the Jib Room is the Restaurant at the Marsh Harbour Marina .. it is on the opposite side of the Harbour from the Conch Inn and the downtown Marsh Harbour area .. so it is a very short distance by water but it is a good hike by land .. the B-B-Q Dinner on Wednesday nights is served at 07:30 pm but even with reservations it is a ‘first come basis’ for seating and with the rainy weather the inside seating is gobbled up quickly .. soooo we headed over to the Jib Room at 06:00 pm to get a table inside and away from any rains that may come by when we were there .. next to our table was a Post with a Plaque on it with the ‘Water Line’ from Hurricane Jeanne .. the Line is about 8 inches above the Bar .. the place had to be a real mess after the Hurricane but you would never know it now .. by the time that we lined up for the Ribs the place was ‘PACKED’ .. they served over 190 people .. they turned away over 50 people .. people came in droves .. tables were set up all around the outside of the Jib Room .. the Ribs were great and so was the music .. a local ‘Calypso’ group set up outside the Jib Room and after about an hour they started the Limbo .. one of the band members was the final winner .. they set the Limbo Bar on fire and lowered it down to about 16 to 18 inches and he went under it .. .. when Betty and Margie returned the Rental they had to fill the Fuel Tank on the Rental .. Fuel ( Gasoline ) is $4.09 per gallon .. after a last minute check on the ‘Abacos Cursers Net’ we headed out for Treasure Cay about 09:30 am .. we had a short day at Sea .. all of a 19 miles .. when we were underway Margie had a good nap for most of the trip and she said later that see was sleeping so hard that she never even knew that we docked Dee Light .. the Channel into the Treasure Cay Marina is very well marked and we came into the Marina at their near low Tide but we had good depth all the way .. we had Dee Light docked and tied off by 11:30 am but we did not have any Shore Power until about 12:45 pm after the Marina’s Electrician repaired the Square D Panel Box .. we had a great lunch that Margie put together and after lunch Betty headed to the Pool / Beach .. Dan had a good nap and then he also went to the Pool / Beach .. Margie started to watch her ‘soap’ but fell asleep and also had a good long nap aboard Dee Light .. .. the Treasure Cay area, is more of a quaint village that dominates the Central Eastern portion of Great Abaco, which has many gems .. the most sparkling of which is its stunning 3.5 mile stretch of ‘Powdery White Sand Beach’ .. the Beach, matched in brilliance only by the turquoise waters that lap it, was named one of the Caribbean's 10 best in a 2004 issue of Caribbean Travel & Life and one of the 10 best in The Bahamas .. and it is OVERCAST today .. UGH !!!! .. Treasure Cay is said to be one of the biggest and best of the Out-Islands .. guests of the resort appreciate the House and Garden look of the architecture, the tropical plantings, the beachfront, an excellent golf course, etc .. the Marina Facilities is a 150 Slip Marina described as world class by Motorboat & Sailing Magazine .. the Marina caters to the discerning Boater and Sport Fishing Tournaments that leads to our dilemma .. after getting here we decided to try to stay another night but the Harbour Master said that they have a BIG Fishing Tournment and asked us to check back in the morning .. Treasure Cay has the reputation of being adventure Island, and again the Resort doesn't disappoint .. Fishermen with a taste for the big catch and the bigger fish story can battle one another for Blue Marlin, Bonefish and Billfish at the Resort's acclaimed Fishing Tournaments .. for the water lover the area also has Scuba Diving, Snorkel, Windsurf and Sailing .. and the on-site Restaurant Spinnaker Restaurant, the Coco Beach Bar and the delightfully named Tipsy Seagull Outdoor Bar, are considered a must-see for tourists, especially those who want to dance all night like Margie .. .. for dinner we all went to the Tipsy Seagull Outdoor Bar where they had a Pizza Night set up and live entertainment .. after dinner .. YUP .. you guessed it we found the local Ice Cream Parlor right next to a local Bakery .. it is hard to beat having Ice Cream and taking in the aroma of fresh bread at the same time .. .. the Marina Harbour is surrounded on all sides by two story very attractive Condos .. it appears like the Marina / Resort was developed in about 1980 with some improvements since then .. but most of the recent changes being done mostly after Hurricanes .. a little after 08:00 am we checked at the Harbour Masters Office to see if we could spend another night at the Marina .. the Harbour Master still did not have a ‘yes or no’ answer and said to check back in two hours .. but did say that it looked very good for us to stay .. sooooo I got in contact with the Orchid Bay Yacht Club & Marina and changed our reservations there .. when I got back to Dee Light we launched the Tender and Betty and Dan headed out to do some Diving .. after checking in again at the Marina Office Margie took a good long nap and Marv headed to the Engine Room to change out Dee Light’s Fuel Filters .. Dan and Betty spent about 90 minutes exploring two small Islands and doing some Snorkeling .. they were enjoying the waters so much that they did not notice that the Tide was going out .. it left the Tender high and dry so they had a job just getting it back into the water for their return trip .. after lunch at the Beach Bar Dan and Margie had a good long nap .. Betty also to a siesta after lunch before taking Autumn to the Beach .. I took our Diesel Tank to the Fuel Dock to get a few gallons of Fuel only to find out that they were having a siesta until 02:15 pm also .. soooo I returned at 02:15 pm and not a minute before .. then I joined Betty and Autumn on the Beach .. Autumn LOVED her time running and swimming on the Beach .. when we went to put the Tender back on Dee Light the steering failed .. dinner tonight was going to be charcoal grilled steaks on the Marinas Charcoal Grill .. wellllll when we bought the Charcoal they did not have any Starter Fluid so we used cardboard .. and more cardboard .. and much more cardboard .. we ended up even using the bag that the Charcoal came in and persistence worked .. about two hours after we started we were having ‘charcoal and cardboard’ grilled steaks on the Back Deck .. Autumn may have been tired but she was not too tired for a walk to the Ice Cream Parlor .. Travel – Today 15 Miles – Cumulative - Dee Light 857 Miles – Tender 103 Miles |

.. the photo to the left is the Beach Bar at Treasure Cay .. it is located just a very short walk from the Marina .. the Marina also has an 18 Hole Golf Course and many Shops .. the Sport Fishing Boats and their Crews have been moving in the past two days .. they have been getting their fishing ‘stuff’ and ‘things’ all polished and ready for the big Bonefish Fishing Tournment that starts here Sunday .. the Marina is not full at all but I am sure that by tonight it will be .. the Bar was just ‘buzzing’ last night with all the ‘big ones’ that got away .. after checking the weather out on the ‘Abacos Cursers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) at 08:15 am we headed out for the Island of Guana Cay .. we had another short day as Sea .. 13 miles .. we were backed into our Slip and tied off by 10:30 am .. again the Electrical Power at the Marina was down .. the Harbour Master said that they get their power from the Main Land ie Marsh Harbour via and under water cable system .. they do have a Generator at the Marina that provides power for the Office, Fuel Dock and the onsite Restaurant .. with tomorrow being Sunday the Stores will be closed soooo once we were checked in it did not take long and the Gals were off shopping in the Golf Cart .. a NOTE to remember when docking here is that the ‘Wooded Piles’ in the Marina have large Bolts that are exposed on the face of the Piles .. we were lucky but the Hatters next to us was not so lucky .. they ended up with a long scratch in their bright yellow painted Hull .. UGH !! .. | |

E-Mail from FENDER BENDER Hi Marv, we reached our dock on Thursday about 4:30 PM. We had a fair crossing from Cat Cay on Tuesday, had to detour around a thunder storm. Benidiction had engine problems about 12 miles out of Miami, limped in at 7 knots on one engine. Ms Dianne and Benidiction stayed in Miami while we left on Wednesday for Marathon, more storms, stayed over night at the Marathon Yacht Club, nice place. Left Thusday morning at 7:00 am, cloudy skies but not threating, after rounding Cape Sable the storms began to build. Out ran one front only to run into another front at Marco Island. Could not get around this storm, so we had som rough seas for about 25 miles. Detoured to Coon Key to take the Marco River on the inside passage, and the intercoastal up to Naples. After Naples the seas died down for the trip to Fort Myers. Benidiction hoped to have his engine repaired on Friday and begin the trip home on Saturday. I think Ms Dianne was also leaving on Saturday. Thank again for the great job you did on planning the cruise. Bob & Sue, Fender Bender |

.. Marv and Dan spent part of the afternoon cleaning Dee Light .. in addition to the ‘SALT’ on Dee Light there is Diesel ‘crud’ from the Diesel Powered Generators on each of the Islands .. just down the Dock from Dee Light we found a ‘friend’ for our ‘Pool Boy’ .. we will have to introduce the two of them tomorrow .. the Gals made it to Nippers and returned with many ‘treasures’ .. once back Margie and Dan headed to Nippers with the Golf Cart .. I also investigated our Tender steering problem and found that our Steering Cable broke .. I then got names and Phone Numbers of business that would have the part that we need to get it back in operation again .. all of the business are located in Marsh Harbour and are now closed right thru Sunday .. so we will have to wait until Monday to look into getting it repaired .. after Dan and Margie returned from Nippers and after Dan’s afternoon nap we all headed out with the Golf Cart to Nippers for dinner and an Island tour after dinner ..
