GREEN TURTLE CAY MARINA - The Club now boasts one of the best marinas in the Bahamas. Reopened in April 2000, the facility has 40 slips on wide, well appointed docks that accommodate vessels up to 120 feet overall." - Southern Boating Magazine
The Green Turtle Club Marina enjoys an enviable geographic location on the Cay, centrally located to be within a short golf cart commute from town. A paved road was constructed in the mid-1990's that begins in New Plymouth and ends at the Green Turtle Club. The Club Marina is just a 5 minute walk from beautiful Coco Bay and it is the only resort marina on Green Turtle Cay that is within easy walking distance (less than 10 minutes) of the breathtaking beaches on the Atlantic Ocean ..

.. we had heard that WI-FI has not made it to this part of the world yet but when we got here my Laptop indicated that it was picking up a WI-FI signal and sure enough we are on-line again .. we had also heard that there is a ‘local’ resident that has set up a WI-FI Hot Spot just for Boaters but the Hot Spot was to be at the Anchorage area in the Green Turtle Harbour .. ?? .. anyway we are on-line .. we checked out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) .. the weather for the week ahead is going to be GREAT .. ie fair skies, mild breeze from the East and Southeast, low 80s, etc .. yesterday when we explored the island, the city of New Providence, the Bluff House Marina area, etc we discovered that the Roads on the Island are in ROUGH shape and we discovered that there is much to explore by Tender so this morning we launched our Tender .. once in the water Dan and Margie headed out with the Tender to explore the area and they did not return until they had explored some local Beaches, the Bluff House, had lunch at Laura’s Restaurant, etc .. Dan and Margie also said that they had the BEST Conch that they have ever had at Laura’s .. ‘it melted in your mouth’ .. soooo we took the Golf Cart and patrolled the Beaches .. and we ended up adding many new treasures to Betty’s Conch collection .. after cleaning her new Conch pieces Betty headed to the Pool for the rest of the afternoon .. she had a good nap poolside and Dan had a good nap in the Front Cabin .. later all of us took the Tender to the Bluff House for dinner .. they had a Buffet set up with BBQ Ribs, BBQ Chicken. Charcoal Grilled Lobster, etc .. after dinner we enjoyed the music of a local Abaco Band called ‘The Rooster’ .. they are VERY popular in the Abacos and also perform in the States as well .. tonight must have been an off night for them as we were not impressed at all .. the Moon and our Flash Light aided us on our return to Dee Light ..

.. after our late night last night Dan and Margie really slept in this morning .. after they got up and after we got organized we all headed to Alton Roland Lowe’s Studio vis the Golf Cart .. Alton is an Abaco native and is a very good artist .. Dan and Margie had been to his Studio before and said that we just had to see it .. just as we got to his Studio Alton was in his Truck heading into town .. Margie spoke with him briefly but he had an appointment that he could not miss .. soooo his ‘right had man’ let us into his Studio .. all of his work depicts scenes from this area .. some native people, many flowers, many landscape scenes, etc .. from what I saw his art is ‘contemporary with photo quality sections’ added to the scenes .. Alton also has a Studio in Miami .. very well worth the trip to the Studio .. when we returned Dan and Margie took the Golf Cart into New Providence to do some shopping .. on there way back they also explored some of the many Side Roads .. we have been enjoying the weather that took a change for the better a few days ago .. ie fair skies, mild breeze from the East and Southeast, low to mid 80s, etc .. hard to beat !! .. and we took advantage of the weather today .. we took the Tender and headed out to Manjack Cay an Island just Northwest of Green Turtle Cay .. we first went out on the Ocean Side of Manjack and headed up the Shore Line to an area that has many large Coral Heads .. we worked our way thru the Coral Heads and beached the Tender but the Surf was so strong that we did not spend much time there and took off after one walk on the Beach .. we went to the other side of Manjack and found another deserted Beach .. we walked the Beach, we snorkeled, we found MANY live Conch, more Sea Biscuit than the Tender could hold, etc .. it was truly the best Beach, shelling, snorkeling, etc that we have found in the Abacos !! .. Betty had one of her BEST DAYS of the entire trip !!!! .. when we had the Tender filled with Sea Treasures we headed back but we explored our way back to Dee Light .. once we had the Tender unloaded we filled our Fuel Tank at $3.99 per gallon .. after Dan’s afternoon nap we all took the Tender back into New Providence for dinner .. we were all soooo impressed with Laura’s Restaurant that we decided to have dinner there one more time .. and again tonight the Conch was the BEST !!! ever .. from Laura’s we took the Tender to a small bar / Restaurant between New Providence and our Marina called Pineapples Bar and Grill .. IT IS A PACKER BAR .. see photo .. yes the popularly of our Green Bay Packers has extended to the Abacos .. once we were back to the Marina we were able to enjoyed the ‘The Rooster’ again tonight as the Band had set up at the Green Turtle Cay Marina tonight ..

.. since the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) headquarters is located in Marsh Harbour and we are moving West away from Marsh Harbour this morning will most likely be our last day that we will be able to get it on our Marine Radio .. all weather indications are the same .. more of just what we have had the last few days .. GREAT WEATHER .. both Dan and I put off getting a shirt from the Bluff House Yacht Club until ‘later’ .. well ‘later’ did not happen so this morning before we put the Tender back up on Dee Light we headed across the Bay and got our shirts .. we had to wait until but we both got our Shirts .. soooo by the time we headed out it was 10:00 am .. we had 1 footers all the way to Spanish Cay .. we had Dee Light backed in again by 11:30 am .. once we checked in and the Marina and checked the area out launched the Tender and had a quick lunch .. right after lunch I shut down all the Air Conditioners to work on the Batteries and Dan and Margie headed out in the Tender to explore the area .. yesterday we had a Battery acid order and I filled two of the 24 Volt Bank Batteries that were a little low on water .. today when I went to start the Generator it would not turn over on the first Battery and I had to use two Batteries to get it going .. sooo now I will check out the two Generator Batteries .. UFFFDA it was 107 degrees in the Engine Room .. Betty spent the afternoon in the Galley preparing dinner and I spent the afternoon in the Engine Room adding water to both the Generator Batteries, running the Water Maker, etc then we took a dip in the Pool .. did it feel great .. with the cost of water at 40 cents a gallon we are using our Water Maker as much as we can .. after their Tender outing Dan took a good nap .. Betty served dinner on the Back Deck and what a great dinner it was .. then she topped it off with .. YUP .. Ice Cream ..

.. Spanish Cay is not a Green Turtle but it has its own character .. the Rock Break Wall that shelters the Marina Harbour is just a part Rock Wall thus most of the waves from the Southeast to the Southwest make there way into the Marina .. the Island of Spanish Cay .. is a three mile long paradise of Tropical Beaches and Palm Groves, surrounded by boundless horizons of aquamarine waters and pristine Coral Reefs. . one can explore the beauty of the Bahamas viewing beautiful Palm Trees, Royal Poincianas, Frangipani, Wild orchids, Bougainvillea and Hibiscus .. the habitat is alive with many birds such as Fish Eagles, Ring Necked Pheasants and the rare Albino Owl .. Spanish Cay is a beautiful private Bahamas Resort open to the boating world .. the Island features include an eighty-one Slip Marina with full hook ups, a new enclosed A/C game Room/Bar Lounge, four lighted Tennis Courts and a fresh water Pool and Spa .. we are still able to get the weather over the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) that is headquartered in Marsh Harbour .. once we all got organized we all took the Tender out on the inside of Spanish Cay to a Dock near where the Owner of the Marina lives .. the Islands Airport is located within sight of where we were .. we held the Tender to a Piling and Dan got in and snorkeled around an airplane .. he also got his Peas out and feed the Fish .. Margie and Betty watched the Fish thru our Plastic Glass Bottom Bucket .. from there we headed to one of the Beaches on the Outside of the Island and beached our Tender .. Margie walked the Beach for a few minutes and then walked back to Dee Light just a three minute walk across the Island .. we had a good time exploring the waters and found many more Sea Biscuits for Betty and we also found a number of ‘live’ Tulips .. after a brief lunch Marv reprogrammed the Satellite TV System and then headed to the Engine Room and Betty did some cleaning inside Dee Light .. Margie said that she was going ‘stir crazy’ so Dan and Margie went to the Marinas Lounge for the afternoon .. right after an afternoon shower came thru we hoisted up the Tender and got everything ready to head out in the morning .. later right after Dan’s afternoon nap we headed up to the Marinas Restaurant for dinner .. the Restaurant overlooks the Marina Harbour and tonight we saw a great sunset right from our table ..

Saturday June 18th 2005 – Green Turtle Cay Spanish Cay Marina - Spanish Cay - 242 365 0083 – Website www.spanishcay.com
Weather Forecast – Winds from SW 13 to15 KNOTS .. Seas 3 to 5 feet – Thunderstorms and 82

.. the weather has taken another change .. the winds the past few days have been very low and with yesterdays Thunderstorm that came thru the winds have now picked up some .. we got up early and once it was light we we ready to head .. we pulled out of the Marina at 06:30 am .. Dan got up and helped with the lines and then he took a good morning nap .. Margie tried to sleep in but the roar of the Bow Thruster got her out of the Front Cabin .. Betty served breakfast on the Bridge .. when Dan got up from his nap Margie went down for her nap .. we passed one Island the is called ‘The Center Of The World Island’ .. we headed mostly West into 2 to 4 footers all the way to our Marker a few miles South of Memory Rock .. then we headed South to West End into all sorts of Seas .. we had 3 to 6 footers coming from the side, Bow, Aft, etc all at the same time .. Margie said that her tummy was going ‘flip-flop’ but she was able to retain her original cargo without any problem .. it has been a number of days since we have had a longer day of travel .. and Dee Light ran just GREAT for the entire trip .. after getting cut off by two Sea Rays on our way into the Marina Entrance .. we were directed to our Slip by a uniformed Harbour Master guy .. he was a Mobil Marina Office as once we were docked we checked into the Marina with him without leaving our Slip .. we had Dee Light backed into the Slip, tied off, with power, etc by 12:00 pm .. after a quick lunch on the Back Deck Margie brought Betty into ‘Town’ to show her the sights .. Marv hosed down our ‘salt encrusted’ Dee Light and Dan cleaned the Tender .. we decided to really give Dee Light and our Tender a good bath as the water here is only $15.00 per day for unlimited usage .. .. when Margie and Betty returned from shopping / exploring Betty finished up the exterior of Dee Light while Margie and Dan took good naps .. many large Yachts ( that are too big to get into the Marina ) will anchor outside of the Marina and then send their Captain into the Customs Office by Tender to obtain clearance to enter the Bahamas .. this is a very busy Marina .. they turned down a number of boaters that tried to get dockage for tonight .. Dan and Margie had dinner on Dee Light and we walked to one of the Restaurants at the Marina .. our dinner was great and so was the walk along to Beach and the Docks after dinner .. but no sunset again tonight ..

Sunday June 19th 2005 – Fathers Day - Old Bahama Bay - West End, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas Old Bahama Bay - West End, Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas - 242-346-6500 / 800-444-9469 - Website www.oldbahamabay.com - dockage $1.35 per foot plus power and water
Weather Forecast – Winds from SW 15 KNOTS .. Seas 3 to 5 feet – Thunderstorms and 82

.. when we were at the Spanish Cay Marina it was the most ‘Americanized’ Marina that we had been to since we left Marathon and Old Bahama Bay is even more Americanized than Spanish Cay .. the Marina at Old Bahama Bay is only 56 miles from Palm Beach .. it is a full-service Marina destination with 72 Slips featuring a controlling depth of 8 feet at mean low tide .. it is one of the only night navigable nautical points of entry in the Bahamas .. the Marina offers quick and efficient on-site Bahamian Customs and Immigration .. the state-of-the-art facilities make Old Bahama Bay the ideal haven for transient and long-term Marina guests .. this is one of the few ports in the Bahamas where a night entry is possible .. the Entrance can be identified both day and night by a tall TV Mast .. there are 72 Slips and Vessels up to 80 ft can be accommodated .. Fuel, electricity ( 110/220 V ), Water/ice, showers, laundry, pump-out, chandlery, bike are all available to all Boaters .. Florida is almost within sight of West End so we both tried our Cell Phones again but we are still unable to get a connection .. since it is Fathers Day Margie had a number of gifts for Dan and then she took Dan out for Fathers Day Breakfast .. I enjoyed my last two slices of the ‘English Muffin Bread’ that I got on my last trip up North to Eau Claire Wisconsin .. it must be time to head back there .. there is a group of Boaters from a ‘Yacht Boat Club’ that spent the night here last night .. when the first ‘Lead Yacht Club Boat’ left the Marina this am there was a good wind and one of the Lead Boaters misjudged the ‘Pole Markers’ and went a ROCK just outside the Marina Entrance .. we lisened to the dialog over the VHF between the Staff at the Marina and the Boat Club members .. some time after the Lead Boat ( EQUITY CLASS ) went a ROCK a number of the other Yacht Club Members started to follow the same path as the Lead Yacht Club Boat but the Staff at the Marina was able to stop them before they went a ROCK also .. since the Lead Boat lost both Rudders and one Prop / Shaft one of the other Yacht Club Members will now take the lead position .. later one of the Staff at the Marina suggested that the Lead Boat rafted off to one of the other Yacht Club Boats that they are traveling with and the Second Boat could maneuver both of the Boats into the Marina and the Marina Staff found dockage in the Marina for both of the Boats rafted together .. all agreed and soon they were all back into the Marina safe and sound .. after there Fathers Day breakfast Dan and Margie headed to the Beach / Pool area .. after a quick / light lunch we joined them at the Pool area where Dan and Margie ‘chowed’ down some Bahama Hot Dogs .. later we all headed to the Beach .. Dan and Betty went snorkeling and found some Star Fish and many more Sea Biscuits, Margie read her book in the water relaxing on a Chase Lounge Chair and Marv added some water to the Generator Batteries .. after cleaning up all of us walked to the Dockside Grill for dinner .. and our Fathers Day dinner was great !! …
