.. one Month ago today on 05-05-05 we left Fort Myers Florida .. the Orchid Bay Yacht Club & Marina has 32 Slips .. Fuel and water are available .. a good Shower Room, a Laundry Room and Wireless Internet access is also available .. there is a Ferry that goes to and from Marsh Harbour .. it is a very well sheltered Marina from all directions .. after checking out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cursers Net’ we headed out to spend the day at Nippers Beach Bar & Grill .. we took our Snorkeling Gear as some of the best Snorkeling is at the Shoreline just below Nippers .. |

.. Nippers Beach Bar & Grill ( http://www.nippersbar.com ) is located on Great Guana Cay just a short Golf Cart ride from the Marina .. Nippers is one of the most famous all-ages hot spots in all of the Abacos .. you may have read about Nippers in travel magazines, seen photos on calendars, or perhaps even seen a documentary on the Discovery Channel .. but you'll never read about Nippers in any travel brochure .. why ??? .. simply, because this particular piece of paradise can't be adequately described in any number of words or photographs .. you simply have to experience it for yourself .. .. perched high upon a forty-foot dune, Nippers overlooks the Great Abaco Barrier Reef .. large, branching formations of Elkhorn Coral with medium to large Brain and Star Coral tumble down the inside of the world's third largest Barrier Reef .. Beach entry is only a few stair steps away, allowing Snorkelers and Scuba Divers some of the very best access in all of the Abacos to this well-developed Reef System that starts less than fifty feet from Shore, and rises from a depth of about forty feet to within inches of the surface .. |

.. yesterday when Betty and Margie were first at Nippers they checked out the Bar area and found a table that overlooks the ‘Nippers Bar Area’ .. today Betty brought Dan and Margie to Nippers to set up ‘camp’ for the day right there at the table .. the ‘Road’ to Nippers is a dirt pathway up the hill where Nippers is located .. just before Nippers the pathway is cut thru a ‘Sand-Dune’ and is the width of the Golf Cart .. ie a ‘No Passing’ area .. in the morning Marv continued his work on our Tenders Steering System .. the Slips in the Marina filled up with party goers .. once docked they headed to Nippers .. later we made our way to Nippers for some photo taking, shopping, lunch, a walk on the Beach, etc .. Dan and Margie ( the Bahama Mama ) were hooting up a storm all day .. Dan and Betty both brought their Snorkeling Gear .. Dan did try Snorkeling but due to the wind direction it was not a ‘safe’ or enjoyable experience .. sooo the Snorkeling Gear was retired for the day .. when we left Dan and Margie wanted to go to another Bar on the Beach just a short Golf Cart ride from Nippers .. soooo we all headed there before we returned to Dee Light .. after cleaning up Dan and Margie took the Golf Cart and headed back to both of the Bars once again .. Marv lined up a contact to help us out with our broken Tender’s Steering Cable .. the Harbour Master at the Marina thought that our contact would stop by the Marina to go to Nippers but he did not show up all day ... soooo with today being Sunday and a Bahamas Holiday Weekend we will have to wait until Monday to contact him .. later we took a good walk along the Shore Line .. when we got back to the Marina there was a ‘Water Balloon War’ going on between the ‘Stinkpots’ in the Marina and the ‘Sail Boats’ on the Hook in the Harbour .. at sunset and after many rounds of ammo the War ceased due to darkness .. Autumn was happy when the shooting ceased .. Travel – Today 0 Miles – Cumulative - Dee Light 870 Miles – Tender 103 Miles |

.. today is the day that we had planned on taking our Tender to Bakers Bay to the area where Disney Land has set up a Port for their Cruise Ships to stop at .. after getting is all constructed they abandoned the project .. but with no Tender .. anyway this is our first major change in our original ‘Trip Plan’ .. not bad at all for this length of time .. after the Staff at the Marina got their Monday morning organized I worked with them to develop options to repair the Steering on our Tender .. after many calls, etc we found a seven foot Telaflex Steering Cable in Marsh Harbour .. we need a six footer but we are sure that we can make the seven footer work .. there is a Ferry from Marsh Harbour to Guana Cay that dose a number of trips each day .. soooo the Harbour Master is now going to get the Cable here on the next Ferry .. after spending the morning talking with a number of people Dan found a number of Scuba Diving spots to explore .. soooo right after lunch Dan and Betty headed out to do some diving .. they ended up finding a Reef ( third largest Barrier Reef in the World ) on the other side of the Island that is about 50 yards off the Shore Line .. they enjoyed exploring the Reef and the waters around the Reef .. Margie has not felt good at all so she stayed back and watched her ‘soap’ and had a good long nap for most of the afternoon .. after working on the Tender I took a photo walk around the Island .. I ended up at Nippers for lunch and did stop at the Ice Cream Parlor on the way back to Dee Light .. when Dan and Betty returned from their diving with the Golf Cart they took all of us back to the spot along the Shore Line where they went diving so we could all enjoy the view .. yesterday Betty mailed some Post Cards at the Post Office in their Mail Slot only to find out today that there is a new Sign on the front of the Post Office stating that ‘The Post Office Will Be Closed Until Further Notice’ .. UFFFDA !! .. only in the Bahamas .. our Harbour Master was unable to secure our Steering Cable from Marsh Harbour .. his major problem was that the person that he was trying to talk with could not speak or understand English .. soooo I have decided to head to Marsh Harbour by Water Taxi in the morning .. after Dan had a good afternoon nap Dan and Margie headed to Nippers for dinner .. this week in the big Fishing Tournament at Treasure Cay .. we took a walk and when we were around the Pool we counted well over 30 Sport Fishing Boats that we could see all heading into Treasure Cay .. I am sure that fishing for the day was over and they had to beat the clock to get back into the Marina in time .. later we went to the Blue Water Bar & Grill on Fisher’s Bay for dinner and the sunset .. and when we made it back to Dee Light .. yes .. Ice Cream …. Travel – Today 0 Miles – Cumulative - Dee Light 870 Miles – Tender 103 Miles |

E-Mail from KYKNOS Marv Arrived in Cape Coral yesterday (Sunday June 5). Not many more problems. After we left you we spent 2 nights in Nassau. Never got to go down the slide at Atlantis but that will be next time! Then we went on to Chub without any problems. Left there real early and headed to Cat Cay. We were making great time until we got hit with a squall at 12:30. The guys didn't get the sails in in time and we had a real mess for a short time. That was the 2nd time we had life jackets on during the trip. We then starting to sail around the squalls along with several others we could see on the radar. Got hit once more real good about 4:30 and got into Cat about 7pm. It was a long day!!!. We then decided to stay 2 nights in hopes that the weather in FL would settle down. We left after a morning storm at 7 am and crossed the stream arriving back in Key Largo at 8:30 pm. We left Saturday at 10 am during the morning shower and got our final ice and fuel and crossed under the Marathon bridge about 5:30 pm and had a wonderful night of sailing across the Gulf. Stopped to see Steve and the girls last night. They had had engine troubles so they had just arrived at 2:30 yesterday also. We are on our way to clear Customs and Immigration. I know I should have done it in Key Largo but it just didn't happen. More later. Hope you are having a great time. We want to thank you for the great experience we had. Ricky really enjoyed the experience also. Keep us updated. Bob & Bonnie |

|
.. the ‘Weather Forecast’ has called for ‘Clear Skies’ for the last two days and also today .. but we have not had one ‘sunny’ day since getting to the Abacos .. UGH !! .. but with the sun that filters thru the clouds we can still get a sunburn in a short time .. yesterday Betty burnt her back when she was Snorkeling .. yesterday we tried to get our needed Tender part from Marsh Harbour to Guana but we were not successful .. sooo today Betty and I took the 08:00 am Water Ferry to Marsh Harbour to try to find the Cable .. Dan and Margie were not up yet so Betty left them a note .. it is a short walk to the ‘heart of town’ where the Water Taxi has its Guana Port .. once we were at Marsh Harbour we walked to three different spots before we came up with the correct Steering Cable .. and then we were only able to come up with a ten footer and not the six footer that is what the Tender has on it .. but I figured that I could make it work .. Betty also picked up some ‘across the counter’ medication for Margie when we were in Marsh Harbour .. Margie and Dan have been on and off being under the weather since they first made it to Dee Light .. NOTE – Betty was really surprised to find ‘Aspirin with Codeine’ sold as OTH .. anyway by 10:30 am we were on our way back to Dee Light .. we had to deflate the Side Tubes, remove the Center Council, disconnect the Fuel Tank and disconnect all the other connections to the Engine before we could get started .. wellll anyway five hours later we had our Tender equipped with a new Steering Cable .. and then I was too tired to launch it .. Betty and Margie did some shopping at Nippers, etc and Dan took a good afternoon nap .. later Betty cleaned the Tender and did it need it .. once she was done our Tender was launched .. it appears to steer much better now than with the orginal six footer .. Betty and Margie put together a delightful dinner that we enjoyed on the Back Deck .. Margie did the main course and Betty did the desert .. later we took the Golf Cart for a long ride and when we got back we retied the Tender as the ‘BUGS’ ate us alive !!! .. .. after checking out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) we headed out to spend the day at Bakers Bay that is located about three and a half miles West of the Marina .. we had a two foot following Sea all the way to Bakers Bay but once we made it to the Shore Line area the waters calmed down .. a number of years ago Disney developed a Port at Bakers Bay for their Cruise Ships to stop at .. Disney cut out a Channel set up their own facility on the Island and when they had the project all done they decided not to use it for their guests .. as we approached the bay we could see some construction activities going on .. once we had the Tender beached we explored the ‘Disney site’ .. we met the Construction Worker that is in charge on the construction work that has just starting on the site .. he said that his firm ( Bakers Bay Company ) is developing the Bakers Site with / for the Bahamas Government .. at this time they are developing a Sea Port and doing MUCH clean up work that is needed due to the Disney project .. in time ( ??? ) they plan to have Shore Line Lots for sale at two to ten million per one half acre lot .. UFFFFDA !! .. it was most interesting to spend the time talking to him about his project .. after spending some time exploring the site we headed to the water .. Marge dose not do snorkeling so she spent the morning in the shade on shore while the three of us explored what we could find under the ‘water line’ .. and the snorkeling was GREAT .. once when we were standing on Shore we saw a large Ray pass by to check us out but he did not bother us at all .. just down the Beach from the Disney Dock area we found a ‘Boaters Bar’ that consisted of MUCH memorabilia ‘Stuff’ that Boaters have collected .. could be the start of an Abacos ‘Boo Boo Hill’ ??? .. Betty was excited when she found a number of ‘Sea Biscuits’ .. on our way back to the Marina we stopped at Blue Water Bar & Grill on Fisher’s Bay for lunch .. we were a real sight for sore eyes but we had a great lunch .. once back to Dee Light Dan took a good long afternoon nap and Margie headed into Town to do some shopping at the local Beverage Shop .. we headed over to the other side of the Island by Golf Cart and went snorkeling were Dan and Betty had snorkeled before .. when they were there they snorkeled on the ‘Inner Reef’ .. we checked out the ‘Inner Reef’ and then headed out to the ‘Outer Reef’ .. the snorkeling was just GREAT !! .. later Dan and Margie headed to Nippers Bar and Grill dinner only to find that a Bartender and one Waitress holding down the ‘fort’ so they headed back to the Marina where they joined us at the Restaurant at the Marina where we all enjoyed a light dinner with Ice Cream for desert .. the winds have not gone down at all for days but they have changed a little in direction and we really ‘rocked and rolled’ all night .. HEADLINES Tropical System Brewing Storm should stay west of area, but rain likely FORT MYERS FL - Southwest Floridians won't need to open the bottled water and canned goods this weekend, but we should keep our umbrellas handy as what could be the season's first tropical storm moves toward the Gulf of Mexico .. .. a Tropical Depression that formed Wednesday in the Caribbean could develop into a tropical storm .. Arlene .. today or Friday, according to the National Hurricane Center. .. Tropical storms have top sustained winds of 39 mph to 74 mph .. .. with the Tropical Depression that is starting to develop below Cuba we are keeping a close eye on how it will affect the Weather here in the Abacos .. the track at this time shows the Depression heading into the Gulf .. after checking out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) we decided that we should try to get Dee Light into as safe as a place that we can find .. so I got on the Marinas Telephone and checked out our options .. the winds are now from the East and as the Tropical Depression pass thru to the West of us we will be on the side of the Depression that will get the most winds and rains .. sooooo I contacted the Conch Inn Resort and Marina and they said that they could get us in .. we checked out of the Orchid Bay Marina and Betty made one more run to the Grocery Store with the Golf Cart for more Ice Cream .. once we got Dee Light ready to head out we pulled out of the Marina at about 09:30 am and headed right into 3 to 6 footers in the open Bay area but we only had 12 miles to go from Marina to Marina ..we did see six other Boats ahead of us and three Boats behind us doing the same thing that we were doing .. we had Dee Light backed into our Slip by 10:30 am .. many of the Docks at the Conch Inn have been replaced or repaired since the last Hurricane so now the Docks are in real good shape .. this may be a conservative move but we thought better ‘safe than sorry’ .. when we got docked at the Marina we were greeted by Lyndon the Dock Boy that washed our Boat when we were at the Davis Marina .. he said that he had migrated up here because of the Sport Fishing Tournaments .. he did want to clean Dee Light but we said that we were going to have ‘Mother Nature’ do the job for us .. after getting settled into the Marina we found out that the Tropical Depression has increased its wind speeds and is now Hurricane Arlene .. the first Hurricane of the Season ..UFFFDA !!! .. with that Dan and Margie both took a long nap .. when they got up Betty and Margie went shopping .. we would like to visit the Island of Man-O-War that is located just North of the Marsh Harbour area so I checked out the Albury’s Ferry Service .. we decided to head there on Friday morning .. we talked to a number of other couples in the Marina that are also waiting out the Hurricane .. later Betty and Margie fixed Bacon Wrapped Scallops, etc for dinner .. it was GREAT !! .. and then we ( except Margie ) walked to the Ice Cream Parlor for desert .. this was a night when the ‘Mosquitoes and No-Seams’ were out for ‘blood’ and they got much of ours .. .. for the last two weeks our weather has been in a 'hold stage' with winds from the ESE due to the three Highs that have been almost stationary to the North of us .. they have kept our winds at about 20 knots all day and night .. soooo now with Arlene we are going to be between the three Highs and Arlene .. the Weather People are predicting that this will increase our winds and rains .. and have advised that all ‘Water Craft’ seek a safe Harbour .. soooo our plans are to stay right here for a few days .. after checking out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) .. they also said that all Boats should head for a ‘safe Harbour’ ASAP to weather out Hurricane Arlene .. sooo it is a good thing that we made the move that we did yesterday .. we got ready to head out to the Island of Man-O-War for the day .. Man-O-War Cay is just a short ride by Tender from Marsh Harbour ( 30 minutes to the North ) but with the HIGH WINDS today due to Hurricane Arlene we contacted a Land Taxi on the VHF Marine Radio on Channel 06 to get a Taxi to take us to the Albury’s Ferry Service Dock that is located about a mile Northeast of the Marina .. then we all took the 10:30 am Ferry to Man-O-War Cay .. Man 'O War is the Capital of The Bahamas' boat-building industry and has been for almost 200 years .. Man 'O War is the most ‘water-oriented’ Cay in The Abacos .. as a matter of fact, some boats are still totally handmade ( without plans of any kind ! ) .. whether viewed from the Water or a quiet little Street ( as no cars are allowed on this Island .. Golf Carts are the only permitted form of transport ) .. its easy to see the Cays' Sea-going heritage in the well-kept homes' numerous "Widow's Walks" and the wide range of nautically-oriented shops and stores lining Man 'O War's Waterfront and Harbour .. Man 'O War is also the home of some of the finest ‘canvas products’ to be found anywhere in the world .. Travel – Today 12 Miles – Cumulative - Dee Light 882 Miles – Tender 112 Miles |

.. we checked out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) and after the gossip came to an end they had an ‘Open Mike’ sooo I asked for information on the Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club .. within a heartbeat there was a response from BEST OF TIMES .. we talked with them on the VHF and found out that they are now in the Marina ( Harbour View Marina ) right next to ours .. so when we took our morning walk we stopped by and talked with them ( Pat .. Marney and their dog Reese ) about the Yacht Club .. it sounds like a good deal and ‘small world’ we found out that two Boaters that we know DIAMOND SUN and ODYSSEY are members of the Yacht Club .. as we have been walking around in the Marsh Harbour area there are is MUCH Hurricane damage that has not been repaired or removed yet .. Dan and Margie had a long night at the Conch Inn Bar last night so they did not appear from the Front Cabin until late this morning and then after a late breakfast at a ‘local’ Restaurant and ‘morning cocktails’ they took a long nap .. .. the Sailboat WILLIAM H ALBURY is harbored at the Conch Inn Marina .. the photo next to this section of the Log describes the vessel .. it has really been kept quite busy with week long groups of Scouts that have been exploring the area waters .. the Scouts are from both America and the Bahamas and are both Boy Scouts as well as Girl Scouts .. sounds like a GREAT program .. we spent the afternoon doing Dee Light maintenance jobs that were badly needed .. when Dan and Margie got up from their nap we all headed over to the Jib Room by Land Taxi for ‘Steak Night’ that takes place every Saturday night at the Jib Room .. we met up with Pat and Marney (BEST OF TIMES ) that we had met earlier today and their boating friends Bob and Chris ( LEAP OF FAITH ) .. once at Jibs we met up with another couple from our Marina that also joined us .. we had another great evening that was topped off with .. yes .. .. after enjoying a great Sunrise and breakfast on the Back Deck .. we checked out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) and then took a walk on the Docks .. we crossed paths again with Captain Eddie Trimble who is currently working as a Captain for FRUITCAKE out of Fort Lauderdale Florida .. we also met Mary Ann Greenl from Cape Coral FL and were from Janesville WI .. her husband ( Bob ) was getting their Sailboat ready to head out .. they have been in the Bahamas ( Abacos ) since early May .. this is our FIRST ‘Kodak Day’ in the Abacos sooo we launched the tender and headed out to the Mermaid Reef and did MUCH Snorkeling .. the Mermaid Reef is located just outside the Marsh Harbour area to the East .. there are a few Mooring Balls to tie off to but they were all taken so we beached the Tender and enjoyed the Reef .. the local Fish enjoyed the treats that we brought along for them .. ie Green Peas and Spray Cheese .. it was a good spot to Snorkel but the waters were not clear like we found in the Exumas .. on our way back we took a ‘Tender tour’ of the Marsh Harbour area .. when we were Snorkeling Margie picked up some supplies at the Grocery Store .. most all of the Stores and Business are closed on Sundays .. once we got back to Dee Light Betty headed to the Pool for a nap and Dan headed to the Front Cabin for a nap and Margie had a nap on the Back Deck .. when they got up Dan and Margie they took the Tender to the Jib Room Bar only to find that it was closed .. so they returned to Dee Light and ended up at the Conch Inn .. we headed out for a walk and ended up having dinner at Mangoes just a short walk from Dee Light .. when we got there were seven gals that had just come from Nippers via the Water Taxi .. they said that when they were at Nippers they did not go there for the Sunday Pig Roast but they went there for the ‘Pink’ drinks and the music .. they were from Sarasota Florida and were having a week long vacation from ‘life’ and were they a ‘sight for sore eyes’ .. UFFFDA .. the last that we saw of them was when they headed down the Road in a white Pickup Truck .. yup two up front and five sitting in the box behind the Cab .. after we got the Tender put back on Dee Light we joined Bob and Chris ( LEAP OF FAITH ) on the Back Deck of their Carver .. we had a GREAT evening .. .. about 07:30 am Dan headed out to the Clinic to get his blood tested .. we checked out the weather and morning gossip on the ‘Abacos Cruisers Net’ ( Channel 68 on the VHF ) .. the weather has FINALY made a change for the better .. ie fair skies, mild breeze from the East and Southeast, low to mid 80s, etc .. on Friday the Cruisers Net said to NOT cross the Florida because of the negative weather from the Tropical Storm Adrian .. today they reported that two Guys with a Sports Fishing Boats did not head the warning and they did not make it back to Florida from the West End ( Bahamas ) .. the US Coast Guard found there EPIRB after a 24 hour search and found both Crews after they spent 30 hours in the waters .. UFFDA !! .. but all were rescued .. HEADLINES MIAMI FL - Mon, Jun. 13, 2005 Montz's EPIRB, however, was not registered, so it took the Coast Guard almost a day before it could correlate the signal with the boat. ''We cannot enforce the message enough of registering the EPIRB,'' said Coast Guard Petty Officer Anastasia Burns. ``They save people's lives, but we need to have them registered.'' Sunburned and dehydrated, Perdigon was in unusually high spirits Sunday as he described his harrowing experience. The two friends kept each other thinking positively throughout the ordeal, reiterating that they would survive, Perdigon said. He said his worst moments came when thinking of his wife and two children. ''It was so hard sitting out there and knowing how bad they were feeling,'' he said. ``They didn't know if we were at the bottom of the ocean.'' But thoughts of his family also gave Perdigon strength. ''They were a big driving force,'' he said. .. the Conch Inn Marina as well as the other Marinas have been filled with boaters that have come in to get out of any weather the Tropical Storm that is now well dissipated .. some of the boaters left yesterday and many more are leaving today .. after checking out and after Dan returned from the Clinic ( Dan did not have the blood test done .. when he made it to the Clinic he found that they had to send the blood to Nassau to be tested and that it would take quite a long time to get the results ) we headed out of the Marina at 09:45 am .. we had 2 footers on our way to The Whales Cay area and about the same thru the Whales Cay plus some rollers that came from many directions .. we came thru without a hitch but I can see how easy it would be to get in trouble quickly .. the Whale Cay area is a stretch of Waterway where two bodies of water come together causing very unpredictable navigation conditions .. and we have heard all sorts of negative stories about Boats that have an adventure when they have traveled thru these waters .. after Whales Cay we had a short run to Green Turtle Cay .. we were tied off at the Marina by 11:30 am .. after lunch we took a Golf Cart and explored the Island .. Dan and Margie had spent a number of days here before so they are very familiar with the area so they enjoyed the afternoon at the Pool Bar .. after checking out the town of New Providence we drove the Golf Cart to the Bluff House where we met two Boaters from Texas with their girl friends from Russia .. now figure that one out .. when we returned to Dee Light we found Margie was preparing dinner for her and Dan and had developed a problem with the Garbage Disposal so before we headed out for dinner I fixed the Garbage Disposal .. HEADLINES Pop Star Acquitted on All Counts SANTA MARIA, Calif. (June 14) - Wanly blowing kisses of gratitude to his screaming fans, Michael Jackson left court a free man Monday and went back to Neverland to pick up the pieces of his shattered career after he was cleared of all charges in his child-molestation trial. Jackson, 46, heard the words ''not guilty'' uttered 14 times in a deathly still courtroom. The Peter Pan of pop music could have gotten nearly 20 years behind bars if convicted of charges that he molested a 13-year-old cancer survivor at Neverland in 2003. .. we ended up at Laura’s Restaurant for dinner .. Betty had their special and Marv had Home Made Ice Cream !! .. Laura’s is located in downtown New Providence and is highly recommended and the recommendation is right on .. there is no Menu the Waiter just tells you what the Cook has come up with for that day .. it looks like a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ but when you make it to Green Turtle do not miss it !! ..
