April 13th 2008 Sunday - about a Month after numerous tests Betty was referred to Gainesville for a Surgical Procedure called a Cardiac Ablation .. ie to correct her irregular Heart beat .. Betty's Doctor told us that her Heart rhythm condition is called Atrial Fibrillation (“a-fib” or “AF”) and this Ablation Procedure was recommended .. it is essentially a re-wiring of the electrical circuits around the Heart ..
April 14th 2008 Monday - this morning at 07:00 am we ( Betty's daughter Cheryl from China, Betty's son Randy, Randy's wife Cantina from Miami and myself ) brought Betty to the Shands Hospital for her Surgery .. the Shands Hospital is located in Gainesville Florida about 240 miles North of Fort Myers .. after the Staff got her prepared and drugged at about 08:15 am they hauled her off to a Cat Lab Operation Room 'screaming and kicking' for the Procedure .. we waited quite Patiently for hours .. the reason that there are not many people in the photos is that I was busted twice for taking photos at the Hospital .. ie I was in violation of their PPA ( Patient Privacy Act ) ... anyway the Operation / Procedure was completed by 03:45 pm .. her Doctor reported that all went well and in time ( ie in a Month or more ) we will know the degree of success .. her Doctor also said that the Procedure took longer than expected due to her Heart size .. ie Betty has a real small Heart .. we could have told him that .. after a few hours recovering from her surgery ( Cardiac Ablation ) Betty made it out of the Cath Lab about 09:15 pm .. Cheryl and I headed back to the Hotel at about 09:45 pm ..
April 15th 2008 Tuesday - we spent all day with Betty and she improved greatly today .. Betty has developed a large Hematoma on her left groin / leg area .. this is the first and hopefully the last complication that we will be dealing with .. it does not look too bad to me but the Doctors have ordered a Ultra Sound on the area that will take place in the morning .. better safe than sorry .. after dinner with Cheryl and one last trip to the Hospital I returned to the Hotel tonight at 10:00 pm ..

to have her
Ultra Sound done
.. I was able to
be in the Ultra
Sound Room
during Betty's
procedure
.. it was most
interesting and
yes I did take
