Travel - Compass Cay to Staniel
Cay .. 22 nm ..
we checked out at the Marina office and
gave Cleo a big hug along with the dates
for our return trip ... at 09:45 am we
left the dock at Compass Cay ... a
little sad but knowing we will be back
again soon ...
we took our time traveling at only
about 10.5 knots as it is a short
distance to Staniel Cay ... after some
very capable maneuvering on the part of
our Captain dealing with a brisk current
and a reasonable amount of wind we were
docked before noon at Staniel ...
after which we even received a couple of
compliments on our docking procedure !!

..
we had a light rain in the early morning
hours and got most of the salt off Dee
Light .. we will wait to have the boat
washed down until next week before the
RPYC group arrives ... we spent most of
the morning on boat chores and while we
ran the water maker we did a couple
loads of laundry ...
... we have left behind the laid-back
lifestyle of Compass and the docks here
are very busy with all sizes of boats
coming and going ... the dockhands are
very good at juggling everybody and at
times it appears they are playing
"musical boats" ... we're glad we
decided to come in earlier than planned
as it seems they presently have a
waiting list for slips ... we spoke with
one of the boat Captains at the bar and
he had to pull into the old Happy People
Marina until a space opens up tomorrow
...
after we finished up around the boat we
took the dinghy for a ride around Big
Majors and ended up at one of our
favorite beaches ... the tide was high
so we just let the dinghy float at
anchor and planted our beach umbrella
next to it while we enjoyed the last of
the afternoon sun ... it was close to
7:00 pm when we decided to head in for a
nice shower and a bite to eat at the
SCYC bar ...

we watched again this morning as
the movement of boats on and off the
dock began ... based on the amount
of activity we have seen in
Highbourne, Compass Cay, Warderick
Wells and here at Staniel Cay it
appears that business is booming and
the recession may be a thing of the
past - at least for the summer
months
...
we spent some time fine-tuning our
schedule for the RPYC group and met
with Shyvette and Suzanna to go over
a few of the details with them ...
after lunch we explored a couple of
areas by dinghy trying to locate the
snorkeling spot that Monica had told
us about but didn't have much luck
at finding any fish ... we stopped
at the beach for a cold drink and
laughed out loud when a family on a
runabout joined us and we watched as
Mom tried to corral everyone to take
a group photo .. when asked how many
kids they had we were told "about a
hundred"!
we
had dinner on board tonight and then
walked up for a drink at the bar ...
we stopped on the docks to chat with
Hank and Sue (Captains of
Yachts, Helicopters & Flying
Machines)
... they have a very unique boat
Fly 'N'
Fish"
which is specially rigged to carry
their 2-seater Helicopter on the aft
deck!
...and it was a very good thing we
stopped at the dock before heading
to the bar because as we were
standing there we all suddenly
looked down and saw AUTUMN SWIMMING
toward us!!!! Yikes!!! ... and
right where the sharks like to hang
out! ...apparently she heard
our voices and fell in trying to get
off Dee Light to join us for
Docktails! ... after fishing
her out and drying her off we firmly
closed all three doors on the aft
deck before we finally headed back
up to the bar for our drink ...

..
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers
everywhere!! ... that is the
general sentiment in the Bahamian
Islands today ... we joined the locals
and visitors for a very fun service at
Church this morning with lots of
singing, clapping, dancing and hugging
in celebration of all the fathers in
attendance ... although the name of the
church is Mt. Olivet Baptist Church they
tell us they are essentially
non-denominational and welcome any and
all!
we
spent a quiet afternoon on the boat
returning emails and working diligently
on the final plans for our group's
arrival later this week as seems to be
coming up really fast! ... there
was a very comfortable breeze on the
docks this evening so we decided to have
our evening docktails on the front deck
of Dee Light (without the worry of
Autumn jumping ship again) ... watched
as the very beautiful Viking Sportfish
Scooter
arrived on the docks with 5 young men on
college break ... soon after doing a
complete top-to-bottom wash down they
headed to the beach for a swim ...
after a light dinner on board again we
enjoyed our dessert and a drink at the
bar ...

we took the dinghy to Fowl Cay where
we spent some time to meet with the
new managers of Royal Plantation to
finalize the details for our Bahamas
2010 Farewell Dinner on next
Thursday ... and later we spent the
day on the boat and around the dock
getting organized for next week
activities ...
our dock neighbors ( Hydro
Therapy Too)
are from the Naples area ... they
recently sold their boat and have
made the trip on a captained charter
boat out of Fort Lauderdale ...
before dinner we were invited aboard
for cocktails ... Autumn got to come
along too as they have a little
Maltese named Gucci on board with
them .. |

355-2024 ..
... this week after many attempts to
get a hair cut finally decided on a
"do-it-yourself" job ... and for the
first time since leaving Fort Myers
we had an afternoon rain shower ...
Mother Nature provided enough of a
shower to remove most of the salt
that may have been on Dee Light ...
in the morning we went over to
Thunderball Grotto with the dinghy
... wanted to get some current
photos using the new waterproof
housing for the camera and was able
to get some really nice photos and
made up a few prints for Chubby, DJ,
Shyvette and Suzanna ..
it was also time to stock up some
groceries so we stopped at the bread
shop for a loaf of cinnamon raisin
and went on to Burke's Grocery Store
... we will come back tomorrow as
the supply boat is scheduled to come
in with fresh produce ...

this is our last day before the RPYC
group arrives and we think we are
about ready for their arrival ...
... first thing this morning DJ was
here to wash Dee Light and scrubbed
her stem to stern ...
we
made another trip to the Blue
Grocery Store and the supply boat
had brought in some beautiful
produce and we got lots of romaine
lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes,
some summer squash, broccoli, etc.
while the Captain vacuumed - the
first mate did some galley duties
and finally ... Autumn got a
bath and a new kerchief for company
too! ...
